It’s clear to everyone that Ashante Adonis is going to be a star in WWE. He’s got more raw talent in one arm than some wrestlers have in their entire bodies, but the issue is he knows it. Adonis got some shine at NXT Takeover 31, making a save for Swerve against Legado Del Fantasma during the NXT Cruiserweight Championship match.
However, this promising rookies keeps him from winning matches, and The Brian Kendrick has been trying to coach him past this. They’ve had two prior matches that ended the same, with Adonis losing, but could tonight finally be his night to get another win in WWE, and break the losing streak?
The Match Goes According To The Brian Kendrick’s Plan
They’d lock up, and Kendrick easily got Adonis in the corner, allowing a clean break. Adonis would return to favor, getting Kendrick in the corner and allowing a clean break… before Kendrick threw a cheeky forearm, Adonis countering and getting a headlock. Kendrick would look to counter with a backdrop, but an elbow to head stopped this, but Kendrick came right back with a big boot.
Adonis shrugged off this boot, and hit the AirDrop Dropkick, one of his budding signature moves, and it landed flush right under the jaw. Kendrick was a bit impressed but looked to slow things down, before getting hit with a big backdrop, and a Cactus Clothesline sent them both over the top. Kendrick lingered on the outside and lured Adonis back out, hitting a Russian Leg Sweep into the barricade. Adonis just made it back in the ring at a 9 count.
Ashante Adonis Finally Seals The Deal
The match was slipping from Adonis, and he was keen to change this with a big lariat. This got a two count, and he’d almost be caught in the Captain’s Hook but escaped, only to eat a leg lariat for a near fall. Kendrick hit a butterfly suplex, and would look to apply a Cobra Twist, but Adonis fought out. He’d pummel Kendrick with blows, and send him across the ring.
Adonis came off the top rope with a big crossbody, and nailed a DDT for a near fall. Kendrick is getting close, but Adonis needed to keep it up. A spinebuster would plant Kendrick, and another weak kickout kept this one going. He’d call his shot and say it’s his time to beat Kendrick, before taking three boots to the face and nearly being locked in the Captain’s Hook.
Another boot saw Kendrick get the Captain’s Hook locked in, but he slipped out briefly only to end up right back in. Adonis used everything he had to bend Kendrick back into a pinfall to break the hold, dodge the attempt to get the hold applied, and finally hit a superkick to stun Kendrick, before hitting The Long Kiss Goodnight to finally win a match over Kendrick.
Astante Adonis has finally beaten his mentor, and this could be all he needed to break out and become a serious threat to Santos Escobar. Will he string together some wins and get a title shot? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
