WWE NXT Preview For 10/14/2020 [Austin Theory vs. Johnny Gargano, Dexter Lumis vs. Damien Priest]

While AEW Dynamite might steal the spotlight tonight with their PPV quality first anniversary card, WWE’s Black & Gold brand are going down swinging. We have Damien Priest defending the North American Champion, a #1 contenders match for the tag team championship, and Johnny Gargano will take on Austin Theory!

Dexter Lumis Gets His Shot At Damien Priest

Back when triple threat matches were determining entry into the North American Championship ladder match, Dexter Lumis was the winner over Timothy Thatcher & Finn Balor. Sadly, an ankle injury sidelined him, but now he’s back and healthy. He’s also owed a shot at the championship, something Damien Priest will happily provide, being a fighting champion. These are two unique personalities who have never met in the ring before, making for an exciting match to be sure.

Who Gets The Next Shot At Breezango?

Breezango were sadly absent from NXT Takeover 31, but it’s time for their next challenger to be determined. It will be either the double tough tandem of Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan, or Undisputed Era’s Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish. Despite many chances, Burch & Lorcan have never tasted championship gold, but Undisputed Era have a record three reigns, with Fish & Strong being involved in that legacy of course. This comes after Burch & Strong beat Raul Mendoza & Fabian Aichner, a match made by Fandango to help get us to this point.

The Future of NXT vs. The Present

Finally, we have Johnny Gargano set to take on Austin Theory. Gargano has long been the ace of NXT, but after a rough 2020, that title is slipping away. You need to know when to pack it in, and he’s never even made it to Wrestlemania, unlike Austin Theory! Theory is pegged as one of the future top stars of WWE, drawing comparisons to a young Randy Orton, and is a prodigy between the ropes. Outside of a warm up against Leon Ruff, Theory has been taking big losses left and right as well, meaning tonight could be important for one of these men to get back on track.
