WWE Smackdown Preview are set to kick off the season premiere for WWE Smackdown tonight, and despite the draft reshuffling things, the brand separation isn’t in effect yet for reasons.
One of those matches was set before the draft, so that’s a reasonable excuse for us. It’s a rematch of sorts as Braun Strowman will face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.
Rematch
While this isn’t a true rematch since the Fiend isn’t part of it, it’s a chance for Braun Strowman to reclaim what’s rightfully his.
Reigns came in at the last minute at their Triple Threat Match against the Fiend at Payback and cleaned up after Strowman and the Fiend did all the heavy lifting.
It marked a trend for Reigns to show up when he feels like it, and has led to him claiming victory after Jey Uso did the heavy lifting in a tag team match.
This match was made last week during Smackdown’s hosting of the WWE Draft, so it partially explains why Strowman will have a chance to take the Universal Championship to Raw.
It won’t happen
This should be a good match and in all honesty, Reigns will win this.
The only question to us is whether it’ll be a squash match that’ll destroy Strowman’s character to further prop up Reigns, or will it be an actual match that’ll last more than five minutes.
Either way, WWE Smackdown Preview think Strowman’s going to lose and leave Smackdown empty handed and have a reason to prove himself on WWE Raw.
It makes sense as it’ll give both wrestlers a chance to go in different directions. The problem here isn’t so much that Strowman will lose, but how he’ll lose.
We mentioned above how it could be a squash match, and when we say that we mean the type where Goldberg defeated the Fiend. Strowman would put up a fight, but it’ll be minimal.
This would, theoretically, shoot Reigns into the stratosphere but given how fans are still mixed on him we’d expect it to be hated.
It’s a good thing the WWE pipes in the cheers and boos at their discretion, huh?
It’s easy to do, especially now that they’re reportedly reusing old Thunderdome fan footage because of the tricks some fans have pulled.
Still, we love Strowman and think he was a great champion and would love for him to get the belt back, but at the moment we hope the two of them are allowed to have a 20 minute match to go out in style.
