Fight Island will have the eyes of the fight world on it this weekend, as UFC 254 takes place in Abu Dhabi. There is a stellar cast in attendance for the huge night of action, but there is no second guessing the fight that all fans are counting down to see. There is expected to be a huge viewing audience for the UFC this weekend, as it will be on at a primetime in Europe this weekend.
The main event will see the unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje take place. One man will have the opportunity to unify the lightweight division, and the heavy favourite to do that is Khabib. But, he will be aware that he will need to think about the present before addressing what could be coming after this fight.
UFC News: Khabib/McGregor Rumours Persists
The rumours reporting Khabib and McGregor are set to have a re-match have sped up again this week, but the current champion will be looking to avoid those rumours as he focuses on the quality challenger ahead of him. Gaethje has already been written off by most, but it’s hard to ignore his 22-2 record.
Gaethje is deserving of this opportunity, and if he can maintain the level of performance that we saw in his fight against Tony Ferguson, then he could have an excellent chance at pulling off a massive upset this weekend. But, make no mistake about it, the cards are certainly stacked against him as Khabib looks to improve his record to 29-0.
UFC News: Stacked Card Of Talent
The main event will get all the attention, but there is an interesting night of fights planned before Khabib and Gaethje take to the octagon. The co-main event will see Robert Whittaker take on Jared Cannonier in the middleweight division. Whittaker comes into the fight with a 22-5 record, while his 36-year-old opponent has won 13 of his 17 professional fights.
There will also be heavyweight action on the card, as Alexander Volkov will be coming up against Walt Harris. Jacob Malkoun will be stepping into the octagon to defend his perfect professional record against Phil Hawes, while there is also action from the women’s flyweight division as Lauren Murphy battles Lillya Shakirova. The main card will get underway with a fight involving Ion Cutelaba and Mahomed Ankalaev.
