All Johnny Gargano wants to cap off 2020 is a title win. He’s failed to win the NXT Championship once, and NXT North American Championship twice now, but he’s getting a third chance tonight. Despite being a rematch with Damien Priest from NXT Takeover 31, this one is going to be very unique. Why is this? Because a wheel spun by Shotzi Blackheart will determine what type of match this one is, and just for the record, Johnny Gargano now hates wheels.

Damien Priest got a special and rocking entrance, with his theme being played live, and his gothic look being perfect for Halloween Havoc, which has it’s classic set emulated with a giant pumpkin on the ramp. Gargano would deflate the pumpkin on his way down, but Shotzi would decide the match with a spin of the wheel.

This match is going to be a Devil’s Playground match, which means Falls Count Anywhere rules.

Johnny Gargano Has A Slow Start

Priest got right to work on Gargano with some strikes, Gargano being rattled by the gimmick being chosen. A bell clap and an elevated flatliner would stun him in the early going, before he’d be dropped with a spinning wheel kick for a two count. Priest would climb the ropes for Old School, but be pulled down by Gargano, who would be hit with a forearm.

Gargano hasn’t gotten going, but a quick dropkick would give him an opening for the slingshot spear, but nearly got hit with a rope hung reckoning. Priest wouldn’t get this finish early, instead being tripped up and thrown into the steel steps. Gargano would grab a Kendo Stick, while Priest got a nightstick and they fought it out on the outside.

Priest would swing for the fences, and while Gargano dodged, he’d soon be picked up and slammed into the chain wrapped plexiglass at ringside. The steel steps would come into play as Priest slammed Gargano with them, before throwing him into the corpse of the Halloween Havoc pumpkin at the top of the ramp.

Priest tried to throw Gargano off the stage, but his opponent slipped out and finally got some semblance of an advantage, kicking him in the head before grinding his face on the ramp. Gargano would then leap off the apron with a cannonball senton, and find his kendo stick again.

A Wild Brawl Into The Backstage Area

Priest would take some shots to the back from the Kendo Stick, before hitting Gargano with South Of Heaven for a near fall. Gargano got the nightstick, but wouldn’t get to use it as Priest got him with a strike to the face. Priest went for a spin kick, but Gargano dodged and kicked him in the head, sending him to the outside.

A suicide dive would be caught by Priest, who wanted to chokeslam Gargano into the boards, but Gargano slipped out, slammed him face first into the chain link fence. Gargano hit Sliced Bread on the steel steps for a two count, before Priest came back with a Broken Arrow onto the announce table.

They’d brawl into the Halloween Havoc set as we hit the 15 minute mark in this match. Gargano opened a casket to try to use it, before getting spooked by a skeleton and superkicking it. Gargano slipped backstage and would use a fire extinguisher to blind Priest, and then slam him into a door before dumping trash on the champion. He’d shove a garbage cart into the champion, only getting a two count.

Gargano found a crowbar next, and would wack Priest in the chest with it before looking for the Gargano Escape. The crowbar was put into the mouth of Priest during the hold, who managed to fight out and Lawn Dart Gargano into the barricade. Priest used the door of the casket to hit Gargano, before kicking him through part of the set.

Gargano Gets An Assist From… Scream?

Gargano would try to climb the set to find safety, but a trash can was thrown at him. They were now up by the wheel, and Gargano narrowly avoided a Razors Edge to the ground and hit a superkick. The trash can would be used again, this time by Gargano who would just batter the champion.

Gargano yelled at the wheel, and went for another superkick before being hit by a roundhouse kick from Priest. The Recokoning would be set up, before someone dressed as Scream would bludgeon Priest with a steel pipe, and allow Gargano to hit a tornado DDT using the wheel.

This mystery figure would hand Gargano a tombstone, Priest was slammed with it, sent down through a building, and Gargano crawled into the pinfall to end this one.

This was an incredible brawl, and arguably better than their match at NXT Takeover 31. Gargano is a two time NXT North American Champion, and probably now loves wheels. His first challenger will be Bronson Reed, so his reign might be short.
