If there’s one thing WWE Smackdown Preview is looking forward to tonight is this match.
Their feud was teased for months and then happened in the blink of an eye, with tonight potentially being the final match in the feud.
At least, it’d be reasonable to think so but we expect it to conclude at Survivor Series.
Shortest title reigns
It’s been one of the most mentioned factoids in recent WWE title history, and it involved Sasha Banks’ inability to retain a championship once she’s won it.
All of her singles title lasted until her first defense, and many are expecting the same thing tonight.
But here’s the thing, if she loses the belt back to Bayley it defeats the purpose of her winning it to begin with.
While it’s easy to imagine the WWE Creative (Vince McMahon) doing that, there is hope that since Triple H is on Smackdown’s team he’ll do what he can to break Banks’ streak and send this feud to Survivor Series where Banks should (but will she?) retain.
There’s every possibility that we’re putting too much faith in how much sway Triple H will have over the show, but there are other ways to handle this than another 50/50 match that won’t help anyone.
Possible outcomes
There are a couple of ways to keep this feud alive for Survivor Series, assuming that’s the plan, would be for Bayley to try to cheat and lose by disqualification.
Or Banks could get DQ’d because she decides ending Bayley’s career is what’s needed.
We can definitely see them having Banks snap and beat Bayley down with a chair, and it’d allow her to retain the title for a final match at Survivor Series.
Easy peazy, right?
Then there’s the chance that there is no match.
Given the WWE’s habit of trying to create backstage drama, there’s the possibility that Banks will be attacked backstage by someone and won’t be able to compete.
This will allow Bayley to work the mic like the promo queen she is and build heat for their rematch at Survivor Series.
Of course, we’re left with who could be the attacker, and we’re tossing Carmella’s name into the hat because why not?
They went to great pains to bring her in with a new persona, and this would give her a chance to take a huge step up into the main event chatter.
Then there’s Bianca Belair, but she’s not a heel and we think they’re going to slowly build her up.
Or Bayley could be the attacker to soften Banks up for their match of Survivor Series match. It’s in her wheelhouse to do that.
One thing for sure is there are plenty of possibilities. Who do you think will win tonight, or what do you think will happen? Let us know in the comments below.
