Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar – WWE Backstage Rumblings

What’s a day in the WWE without some backstage rumblings, even if they may involve Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar?

Grumblings backstage or in a locker room is common place in the entertainment and sports world, especially when things aren’t going well.

There’s nothing wrong with adding talent to a roster to improve it or enhance the other members. It’s a whole other thing bringing someone in and handing them an opportunity at the golden prize out of the gate.

According to rumors circulating the internet, the WWE locker room has been rumbling as to why Cain Velasquez gets to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE championship instead of someone already with the promotion.

The reports claim the superstars feel it’s disrespectful to skip over them after all the work they put in just to sell tickets. And they’re right.

However, selling tickets is the name of the game, and Vince McMahon will do everything he can to ensure the WWE sells as many tickets as possible. If it means bringing in sports stars to compete, he’ll do it. He’s done it before, and he’ll do it again.

It’s a way to get in the sports magazines, radio talk shows, podcasts, and shows. It helps spread word about his product.

“That’s great, Ted. I’m in the entertainment business.” – Vince McMahon, Monday Night Wars DVD

This was what Vince McMahon claimed he told Ted Turner when Turner informed him of his purchase of WCW — “Vince, I’m in the ‘rasslin’ business.” – according to Vince McMahon on Monday Night Wars DVD

We all know that professional wrestling is sports entertainment, however, the wrestlers put their lives on the line every night with every move. One mistake and it’s all over (Darren Drozdov, Owen Hart, and Steve Austin), so it’s unfair to act like they’re simply performers. They’ve put the time, sweat, blood, and tears into their profession like anyone else and they should be the first ones considered.

The fact that Vince McMahon talks so much about honor, loyalty, and doing what’s right for the business while skipping over an entire roster for a newcomer that’s still rough around the edges leaves many shaking their heads.

    Is Cain Velazquez ready?

No, he’s not, judging by his brief appearances on taped episodes.

This was apparent when he first stepped into the ring and attacked Brock Lesnar. His punches were way too easy to spot as fake and he looked stiff.

Of course, he has an injured knee he’s been working through, but it’s obvious he needs more work. It’s safe to say Cain Velazquez and Brock Lesnar’s match will probably more closely resemble an MMA contest than a professional wrestling match. The reason is simple: Cain Velazquez or Brock Lesnar or both could be injured.

In the end, how this match goes will depend on Brock Lesnar and what he’s allowed to do. He’s capable of carrying the match and making it entertaining, but there’s no denying it’d work better with a proven talent from their disgruntled locker room than a newcomer.

It’s obvious that Cain Velasquez won’t win, but imagine the rumblings if Vince McMahon hands him the WWE championship.
