Long before we had WWE shows like Monday Night RAW, Smackdown Live, and especially NXT, they were always trying to find a way to get on TV consistently, while running their live events. One of these shows that existed in the 80’s was Tuesday Night Titans. Hosted originally by Vince McMahon & his sidekick Lord Alfred Hayes, then later Tuesday Night Titans was a loose parody of the standard late night talk show.
We’d see some clips of matches, interviews and skits with the wrestlers of the company, and it was just all around a very fun watch. You can find just about every episode on the WWE Network, and it makes for fine background watching, even to this day. However, did you know that if things had worked out for Renee Young, she would have brought the show back alongside Gene Okerlund?
A Reboot Of Tuesday Night Titans Was Pitched By Renee Young
During an episode of Renee’s new podcast, Oral Sessions, she would have Justin Dhilion of Casual Conversations on. He’d put her in the question seat about her time in WWE, including asking about projects like Unfiltered With Renee Young. She had proposed many other shows for the WWE Network, but most of her pitches were shut down before they even got to film a pilot. One was a reboot of Tuesday Night Titans.
“Yeah, tons of stuff. One thing that I’ve always wanted to do was bring back Tuesday Titans. I wanted to host it and I wanted Mean Gene to be my sidekick; that’s what I really, really wanted. We never shot a pilot or anything, it never really got any legs at all. Something like that I would have loved.”
“I pitched a couple different food show ideas of things that I wanted to like some cooking alongside some wrestlers. Trying to get a podcast kind of up and running which, I mean the pitches for those never really went too far anyways but, just like Unfiltered trying to expand that show, make it into something else. Interview shows are something that I love to do, just being able to just chat with people and just hang out. Tuesday Night Titans was something I really wanted to do though.”
Knowing WWE and their hoarding sensibilities? They likely could have pulled the original set out of storage and everything. Fans loved the retro feel of Southpaw Regional Wrestling, and this would have been in the same market. Do you wish we could have seen this planned reboot?
