In 2020, lot’s of companies were hit hard by the unexpected global pandemic, to the point where some smaller companies had to be shut down. This was the fate of Evolve Wrestling, ending a 10 year run, but there were deals behind the scene which will keep this brand alive. Long term rumors have become reality, and NXT: Evolve is coming soon.
WWE Has Filmed Content For NXT: Evolve
First reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, WWE recently got some content ready for this new NXT brand. It’s headed up by Evolve owner (and former ROH owner) Gabe Sepolsky and ex-Impact Wrestling producer Jeremy Borash. The host of the show is Josiah Williams, better known as Wrestle and Flow, a frequent flier on NXT & The Bump. Williams also did the theme song for AEW’s Shawn Spears.
Content was filmed, graphics were made, and a title was prepared. A lot of recent signees will be involved, but no names were specified. We can expect to see names like Alex Zayne, Joe Gacy, Josh Briggs, Brandi Lauren and more pop up.
What To Expect?
This show will essentially be what NXT was when it first started back up in 2011, a more developmental focused brand. Without the ability to tour Florida, lots of WWE Performance Center talent haven’t had a chance to wrestle much. This will give a chance for people like Rik Bugez to get involved in the ring, without having to slot away time on NXT for him.
It will be a smaller stage for talent to find their place in WWE, with content taped instead of being live. Something like this is important for WWE, especially as NXT is the third brand of the company. They bring in so much talent, and while most are fantastic wrestlers, they need a place to be introduced to a more TV friendly style.
