Big Show has spoken on his plans for AEW and by the looks of it, joining the commentary team is on the top of his list.
Big Show Has Set Out His Detailed Plan For Conquering AEW
In an interview on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, Big Show stated how commentary had been a long-term ambition of his. He said: “Vince let me do a little commentating here or there, but he knew in the back of mind that, Kevin Dunn knew, Michael Cole knew, Jerry Lawler, they all knew that’s what I wanted to do. It’s been a huge, huge passion of mine for, I would say, the last 15 years.
So why did Big Show not stay in WWE and do the same? It seems there was a clash of creativity with Vince McMahon, which stopped Big Show from pursuing both roles (commentator and wrestler). Tony Khan, however, embraced the opportunity with both arms. He added: “[Tony asked], Okay, what do you want to do?’ I said, ‘I want to do colour commentary, and I also want to wrestle.”
And the rest was history: “This is brand new to me. I’m the new kid in school, so to speak. For me, this is a great opportunity to really study and learn the talent around me and find the right program to start,” Big Show said. But it is not just in the commentary box that Big Show wants to leave an impression.
He has also set his sights on passing on his knowledge. He has been keen on targeting the up and coming wrestlers who may need some refinement. It is one thing to have the skills, but another thing entirely to connect with the audience. That is where Big Show is looking to make his impact.
He continued: “I learned so much working there in how to do things and how to be entertaining and psychology. These are tools that I can help younger guys with.”It will be fascinating to see how Big Show will fare in the commentary box. If his mouth is anything like what his wrestling is, then we can expect to see plenty of fireworks. Stay tuned!
