UFC veteran and TUF 1 winner Diego Sanchez parted ways with his coach Joshua Fabia, much to the delight of most observers. ‘The Nightmare’ has yet to talk about it and give his side of the situation, but Fabia already did so in a recent interview.
The much-criticized ‘guru’ Fabia began the interview by making strong statements and highlighting what he calls “red flags” about Sanchez before they started working together.
Joshua Fabia lashes out at Diego Sanchez: “He was a drug addict”.
“Diego was definitely a celebrity. He had some nasty celebrity tendencies. He didn’t like to tip and did some weird things in front of me that, you know, threw up some red flags. But over time, just talking to him, it seemed a little bit, like I said, celebrity stuff. Things just didn’t make sense to me.”
“I was wondering, ‘Why is he driving a $3,000 Mercedes,’ but I thought, ‘He’s saving his money. OK.’ Of all things he was out there, as a coach he’s seeing someone three days a week. Then I moved him into the condo. I helped him through the divorce and this little moment. And everything seemed pretty much the same as anybody else under the circumstances, to some extent.”
Fabia dodged many of the questions related to the actual separation. But she criticized Sanchez and stated that she soon realized that she was “working for a guy who falsely represented himself as a normal person.”
“As I get more information, I’m with the lawyer, and the lawyer talks to Diego and asks Diego about his education, and he starts talking about how he was in special education. Holy crap. Big red flags, man. This is absolutely not what everybody perceived, and Diego is nowhere near what anybody knows, man.”
Fabia continued to talk about Sanchez’s problems and claimed to be the real victim in the situation.
“Diego has been an addict. He hasn’t told anyone for the last five months. I had to live there because he was broke and lost all his money. He became addicted to Kratom, alcohol and 30 other substances. That he has sexual abuse problems. No, he didn’t say any of that, man. And I’ve been putting up with all this. I’ve been doing everything. And everybody’s attacking me. I’ll put it out there, I’ll pull all the evidence, I’ll pull all the videos, man. Diego has clearly been taking advantage of me for two years. I’ve been fighting for him, and I’ve been putting myself on the line for him for no benefit. I’m the one getting death threats here.”
Fabia also accused the UFC Athletic Commission and Nevada of urging Sanchez to give away his UFC 239 fight against Michael Chiesa. The scenario described seems to be the commission’s reaction stemming from Fabia’s “death move” warning , but he seems to think it’s all just a conspiracy and not due to his actions at all.
The interview for Behind the Scenes with Summer Helene is quite loaded and worth listening to. Fabia also explained the controversial video of him hitting Sanchez upside down like a heavy bag and how it’s part of his “body hardening” technique. He also claimed that UFC was involved in that whole “Hollywood set up”.
