Brandon Moreno is counting down the hours until his rematch against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 256.
On June 12 in Glendale, Arizona, Moreno will have a second chance to dethrone Figueiredo. In that first matchup at UFC 256, both fighters had less than a month to prepare. Now, with more preparation time and 25 years of experience facing the Brazilian, Brandon has gained confidence.
Brandon Moreno plans to be more aggressive in rematch with Figueiredo
“Right now my confidence is very, very high. I need to be smart. I understand he’s powerful, he’s for real. He’s a real fighter, that’s why he’s champion. But my confidence is very high. I know I can do real damage in the next fight against him.”
Brandon stresses that his confidence lies in the fact that he has been able to do a full camp in preparation for Figueiredo.
“I can be more aggressive because my whole plan in two weeks was, ‘be careful, take the time to see his counter attacks, and beware of his power.’ Now that I’ve felt his power I know I can take the damage and I can be more aggressive.”
Since his return to UFC in September 2019, Brandon Moreno has not lost a fight. The Mexican adds a controversial split draw against Askar Askarov, and wins over Kai Kara-France, Jussier Formiga, and Brandon Royval.
Figueiredo is also on a roll with six fights without a loss. In fact, during his 11 fights inside the UFC he has only suffered one loss. Perhaps that would be enough to warrant an immediate rematch in the event of a title loss to Moreno. However, the Mexican hopes to go out with his hand up and avoid a possible trilogy.
“In this kind of situation maybe people are expecting a trilogy. But I need to finish the rivalry with this guy. I need to finish this guy. I want to be champion. I’m working very hard. I’m young, I’m 27 years old, but I have 10 years to go pro. I’ve been in this sport for 15 years working very hard. I dream every night of having the belt around my waist. I need to finish this guy. If I can finish him in the first or second, we can end the rivalry right there.”
