At Great American Bash, we will see The Way defend their NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. Tonight, we will find out who will challenge Hartwell & LeRae, as we have a Triple Threat tag team match. First up is the NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai, the first ever champions and shortest reigning, who want to redeem themselves. Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart were the ones that took Kai & Gonzalez down as champions, but eventually lost to The Way. Finally Io Shirai & Zoey Stark are new to the division, but have shown great potential. Who will walk away with the title shot?
Instant Chaos
Gonzalez, Shirai & Moon would start this match, and Gonzalez would instantly have to fight off a two on one attack. Moon hit a sunset flip on Gonzalez who had Shirai in hand, before Shirai hit a dropkick to break the pinfall up. They’d work together briefly to hit a double dropkick, before Gonzalez retook control.
Blackheart got a tag and chaos followed, as Kai broke up a springboard sunset flip pin, and Kai broke it up. Stark intercepted her, and we’d get a brawl on the outside. Shirai would moonsault onto the pile, before Blackheart hit a dive, then Moon, and finally Stark laid everyone out.
Back in the ring, Stark remained in control of Kai during the picture in picture break, and passed that control to partner Io Shirai, who would be able to ground Gonzalez with a rear chinlock into a bodyscissor hold. Blackheart would be the one to break the hold, trying for a submission on Shirai before Gonzalez ran through them both.
Io Shirai Gets The Last Blow
Gonzalez would ram Blackheart into the corner and pick her up, freeing up a leg to boot Shirai down. Shirai would roll Gonzalez through and hit a double stomp, before all three ladies made tags. Stark would drop Kai and get a two count before Moon broke the pinfall up. She’d set Kai up on the ropes for a 619 from Shirai, but Blackheart would break the pinfall up.
Blackheart nailed a reverse slingblade on Shirai before tagging Moon in and battering Shirai with quick strikes, before getting Kai as well. After a senton/gamiguri combo on the ropes to both ladies, Blackheart nailed a Tiger Suplex on Kai before looking for a Cattle Mutilation. Gonzalez broke the submission up and was beaten out of the ring as everyone set up a Tower of Doom. Back to life, Gonzalez would come in and throw people left and right to save Kai, who hit a double stomp to get a near fall.
Shirai would nail a backbreaker and the moonsault, but Gonzalez saved Kai from the finish, distracting Shirai. However, Blackheart followed up with a senton, before Stark nailed her variant of Go To Sleep, and Moon hit the Eclipse. Finally, Kai tried for Go To Kick on Moon and was successful, and got a roll up on Shirai for two. Shirai would be able to defend, and nail the Moonsault for the win.
A chaotic triple threat match as expected, with all of the six women getting plenty of shine throughout. Stark showed she can hang with NXT’s best, and it was great to see everyone get time to shine. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
