Last night at The Great American Bash, we got to see the latest step in the rivalry between Johnny Gargano & Karrion Kross. Kross had been dealing with Gargano since the build to NXT Takeover: In Your House, where they were 2 / 5 participants in a chaotic Fatal Five Way match. However, Gargano hasn’t gotten a one on one shot against Kross, a chance to properly out wrestle the current NXT Champion. Next week, he gets his chance to do just that.
Johnny Gargano Gets Karrion Kross One On One Next Week
Gargano would meet Kross face to face last night on NXT, with William Regal and his new enforcer; former two time NXT Champion Samoa Joe, on hand to keep things under control. They’d call both men down to the ring, and things got off the rails quite fast, but not quite to ‘Kross trying to run Gargano over with his car’ levels of insanity.
In order to solve the issue while keeping things under control; Regal made the title match for next week with Samoa Joe as the special guest referee. This will mark the third title defense from Karrion Kross, with him previously defeating Finn Balor in a rematch, and surviving the Fatal Five Way match.
The NXT Championship Hasn’t Changed Hands Much On TV Since Takeovers Came Around
Since we got the NXT Takeover format, most title changes of the NXT Championship have taken place on these specials. Exceptions include Finn Balor defeating Kevin Owens at Beast in the East, Tommaso Ciampa defeating Aleister Black, and Keith Lee becoming a double champion as he ended the historic reign of Adam Cole.
Johnny Gargano has a chance to join this list next week. With Samoa Joe as a guest referee, anything can happen, and considering how horrible Karrion Kross has been to deal with lately? He might be keen to push the odds in the favor of the more annoying but otherwise harmless Johnny Gargano. Kross has also been wrestling frequent dark matches for the main roster, signaling a coming call up.
