Date Set For WALTER vs. Ilja Dragunov II In WWE

Rarely does a rematch carry so much hype within WWE, but that is the case with the upcoming defense of the NXT UK Championship. WALTER has been champion for over 800 days, and while he’s had some excellent matches, few of them matched the insane physicality of his 2020 match with Ilja Dragunov. These two redefined what a violent match is, not needing weapons or blood to accomplish a spectacle.

The rematch was delayed due to WALTER suffering an injury to his hand during a training camp. While there was some original fear that WALTER would have to vacate, this isn’t the case. It was up in the air for a little while, but we know the date where we will see this match.

WALTER vs. Ilja Dragunov II Will Be Part Of NXT Takeover 36

As per WWE themselves, this match will now take place during the next NXT Takeover event, currently known as NXT Takeover 36. The location is still up in the air, but it’s likely to take place in the Capitol Wrestling Center, but the date of the event is set for August 22nd, the day after Summerslam. WALTER has previously defended his championship in this venue when he faced Tomasso Ciampa at NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver.

This also means that this match will have an arena of fans to enjoy it, while their first match was in the empty BT Sports Arena. Considering they were able to have a five star match without a crowd to hype them up, it will be crazy to think what they can accomplish with a hot crowd. The last time Dragunov wrestled in America he was still new to the WWE roster and wasn’t well received, hopefully this will not be the case this time around.

We can assume they are going to put on a fantastic performance, and could steal the show. Much of the card is still unclear, but Samoa Joe vs. Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship is all but confirmed as well. Do you think WALTER & Dragunov will steal the show? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
