Back in 2019, WWE attempted to make a major signing in the form of Cain Velasquez. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion had wrestled a few matches down in Mexico, before being brought into WWE on a big money contract. However, he entered the company injured, had a single televised match with Brock Lesnar in Saudi Arabia, and was never put back on TV following that. He would be released in 2020, and most figured that was the end of his professional wrestling career, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Cain Velasquez Has Been Booked For AAA In December
While on the In This Corner with Cyrus Fees podcast, Velasquez would speak about his disappointing run in WWE. He blamed his issues on not having enough time to get experience before the pandemic hit, and also being thrust in over his head. Despite this, he still loves wrestling and has a date booked for a match in AAA this December.
“Actually, I’m doing a show in December for AAA. So for me, I love AAA and I’m going to keep doing that right now. I love WWE as well, but I have to first develop myself in order for me to go out there. I’m going to keep doing stuff and have fun with it.”
It’s unclear who he will face at the event, but given his limited experience in the ring, he’s likely to be in a multi-man tag team match.
Never Say Never With A WWE Return
While it’s unlikely we ever see Velasquez get another chance in WWE, nothing is ever impossible with that company. He has a drive to compete, and if he takes the time to improve in the ring, and really find his own style to bring? Velasquez could very well become a star in wrestling.
If he can mix some lucha libre style moves in with his MMA background, you would have a very unique and dangerous hybrid. However in WWE, they just had him come in to have Lesnar redeem a loss from the Octagon, and that was about it.
