WWE is finally back on the road after 18 months away from fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were able to keep things safely running from the WWE Performance Center and later the WWE Thunderdome. These closed arenas brought an odd era of WWE, one where they controlled the reactions and fans watched from LED screens. We had hoped this was done and gone, but as WWE prepares for Summerslam, they are still looking to the Thunderdome as a backup plan.
Both WWE & AEW Are Ready For Restrictions To Come Back Into Play
In a report from BodySlam.net, WWE are worried about the recent spike in cases of COVID-19 brought by the Delta variant. They intend to hold Summerslam at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada… but they aren’t getting too comfortable. While a full lockdown isn’t expected, we could see mass gatherings limited. This would pose a major problem for both WWE & AEW, who are back on the road and bringing thousands of fans into arenas.
However, both companies have their fallback plans. WWE would need to find a new home for the WWE Thunderdome, but also have the more intimate Capitol Wrestling Center, which is used for WWE NXT & 205 Live. AEW of course has the Khan family owned Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. They are back there tonight for AEW: Homecoming due to a scheduling issue with another venue.
AEW & WWE Have Figured Out How To Work Safely
Both companies never had to stop even during the bleakest months of this pandemic, and we can’t expect that to change. Fans are happy to see these companies back on the road, but at the end of the day, their safety as well as the safety of the performers and their families are most important at the end of the day. No one wants to see wrestling forced back into closed off venues, but it’s best for these companies to have backup plans.
We will hopefully not see any changes, but would you still watch Summerslam if it was moved to the WWE Thunderdome? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
