The WWE may have hit a snag this past weekend as they enter the final stretch to one of their big four yearly pay-per-views, SummerSlam, as Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair’s match could be cancelled.
This is more in the rumor/worried it will happen stage than anything else, and the concern comes from their matches being pulled from two house shows this weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbia, South Carolina.
The reasons have been reportedly stated as “unforeseen circumstances” by Bryan Saxton at Sunday’s show in South Carolina.
According to PWInsider ( https://www.pwinsider.com/article/149792/banks-and-bianca-update.html?p=1 ), this has the WWE concerned as this is one of the highest touted matches on the card.
“PWInsider.com has spoken with several sources inside the company who expressed concern their announced match will not take place at Summerslam this weekend, but there is nothing confirmed in that regard.”
While it’s a legitimate concern, there hasn’t been an official announcement as yet, we’re sure to hear more in the coming days, and possible a backup plan on this week’s Smackdown.
There have been rumors that Becky Lynch will appear at SummerSlam, but whether she would be the one to step into his match is the question.
It also depends on what’s caused the matches to be pulled.
Injury or something else
There’s plenty of speculation about what could have caused the matches to be pulled and the subsequent Smackdown Women’s Championship to be in jeopardy.
The prevailing one is either Belair of Banks is dealing with an injury and the company’s trying to protect them for the big match by giving them time off to rest.
This makes sense given how much the WWE has put behind this year’s SummerSlam as they try to make a big splash and improve their profit margin.
Another rumor, and we want to reiterate this is only a rumor, is that one or both competitors could have COVID.
There’s no information to back this up, but it’s a definite possibility. They could be waiting for a second test of hoping everything is cleared up later this week.
The problem here is the WWE is unlikely to offer any news about the situation one way or another, and we’ll be surprised on Smackdown or SummerSlam.
This is where Becky Lynch comes into it if only one of them is injured or ill and she can step in either to challenge Belair or to try for a title shot by defeated Banks.
There’s plenty of time left until the pay-per-view and plenty of options out there, and we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
What do you think will happen to Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair’s SummerSlam match?
