Over the past twelve hours, there was a tense situation at play with former wrestler Daffney. The WCW & Impact Wrestling legend was streaming on Instagram, and had many fans and friends deeply concerned. She was implying that she would take her own life, and everyone was scrambling to get her help. Sadly, things didn’t end in a positive way, as her mother has now confirmed Daffney has passed away at only 46 years old.
Daffney Might Have Suffered From CTE Related Trauma
This comes as a crushing blow to many, especially after Daffney took to the stream and put the dangers of mental health on full display. Everyone from Mick Foley to LuFisto tried to help in some way, sending cops to assist her, and her mother would help to provide the correct address as she had recently moved, but they were unable to make the save.
During the stream, there was one quote that truly stood out. “Remember, my brain goes to Boston.” This was in reference to the Boston CTE Center, where the brains of athletes, soldiers and more are studied to figure out the true extent of what brain injuries can do to an individual. Over her career in the ring, Daffney took some crazy bumps, and truly put her body at risk for fans.
One Of The Few Female WCW Cruiserweight Champions
Over her career, Daffney played many roles. She was the manager to David Flair, one of the few female WCW Cruiserweight Champions, and a well respected veteran in the ring with Impact Wrestling in their knockouts division. While in Impact Wrestling she had the unfortunate initial gimmick of impersonating then Alaskan governor Sarah Palin.
An alliance with Stevie Richards would see her true colors and genius shine through, though she sadly never claimed the Knockouts Championship. She might have not been one of the biggest stars of her generation, but she made history and blazed her own trail. Her legacy is one that hopefully will not be forgotten to time, and one that fans can hopefully look back on fondly.
The death of Daffney is a stark reminder that not all illnesses are visible at a glance. If you or anyone you know is struggling, there is help within reach such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Help is always there, never be scared to reach out for it. You are not alone, even if it will sometimes feel like it.
