This Sunday at All Out, Darby Allin will face CM Punk in his first match in seven years. However, he will first need to deal with the upstart Daniel Garcia tonight on AEW Rampage. Garcia has been looking to prove himself a star, and an attack on CM Punk during Dynamite showed how bold he is, but can he get one over on Allin tonight?
Daniel Garcia Might Be The One At All Out
CM Punk was on commentary for this one, and would be very well received by the Chicago crowd. Allin would rush Garcia into the corner and get a slap to the face for his troubles. Garcia would get beaten down, before they ended up on the outside. Allin went for a running Coffin Drop and would go flying over a table and hit the barricade hard.
It was complete bedlam, with Sting beating up 2.0 at ringside, because he’s Sting and is allowed to do these things as Garcia threw Allin right into the ring post. Back in the ring, Allin would gain some ground before being kicked in the head. On commentary, CM Punk claimed that if Garcia wins, he gets the match at All Out instead of Allin.
Never Count Darby Allin Out
Allin went up top for a dive, and Garcia took him down with a huge superplex. It would manage a two count, and the damage was adding up. Garcia was keeping a level head and hit a basement dropkick to the head, but the crowd was firmly behind Allin with a “Let’s go Darby” chant. Punk would have a staredown with Garcia, but you never want to give Allin a chance to recover.
Back in the ring, Garcia remained in control despite this, hitting a huge chop and kicking Allin in the head. An elbow to the face would see Allin crumble, but Allin would pick up the pace with a charge into the corner. Garcia grabbed a sleeper hold and lifted Allin up with his feet dangling, but had to let the hold go. Another choke was applied, but Allin doesn’t know when to quit. He’d climb up top and use a Coffin Drop to free himself!
Allin would nail the Pepsi Twist, which Punk complimented as better than he ever did. Garcia would hit some tight uppercuts, but would be caught with a backslide right into the Code Red. The Last Supper pin would get Garcia down for the three count, and 2.0 hit the ring to beat Allin down. CM Punk would come to the aid of his opponent at All Out, before coming face to face with Allin.
Forget the Summer of Punk, this is the Summer of Garcia. He’s been getting big match after big match, and this was perhaps his biggest match in viewership ever. This was easily the match of the night, with Garcia looking every bit the equal of Allin – one of AEW’s brightest stars. If he hasn’t been signed yet, tonight was reason enough to do it. Just a fantastic match that I only wish was longer. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
