Over this past weekend, Impact Wrestling has been batch taping their next block of episodes. This has generally always been how they’ve run their shows, and it has pro’s and cons. The pros is they’re able to tell tight stories, and the cons is a long taping session has a lot of room for issues to arise. This was the case with Sami Callihan this past Saturday, as he’d suffered a broken ankle.
Sami Callihan Suffers Broken Ankle
Dave Meltzer would confirm this news on Twitter, by saying the following. “Sami Callihan suffered a broken ankle Saturday at the Impact tapings and had surgery. Looks to be out until spring 2022.” This is a pretty major injury for sure, and Spring 2022 could be an optimistic estimation for Callihan.
Impact Wrestling has built him into one of their top stars, even placing him against Kenny Omega earlier this year. This will be a major blow as they get back infront of fans more frequently, but Impact have always been good at building up names quickly to replace departures and injuries.
No More Switchblade Conspiracy Reunion
This is pretty bad timing overall for Callihan. We were on the verge of seeing a reunion of his tag team with Jon Moxley on the indies – known as Switchblade Conspiracy. This reunion could have only served to further prove to fans how good Callihan is now, as Jon Moxley is a name who draws in many eyes given his runs in WWE and AEW.
Any plans for this tag team will now be on hold until Callihan is healthy. There was at least a small chance of having them in the NJPW 2021 World Tag League, given Moxley is currently feuding with legends from NJPW and Callihan has previously worked the tournament with Juice Robinson. NJPW will need teams for this year, and they’d have been perfect. Callihan could have even used this to get into AEW, rounding out the team of Moxley & Eddie Kingston.
We here at TheOvertimer wish Sami Callihan a quick recovery, and can’t wait to see him back to what he does best. Do you think Switchblade Conspiracy will still get a chance when he’s healthy? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
