Former UFC champion and current owner of a broken leg Conor McGregor was clearly enjoying the action at UFC 266 this weekend. During the title fight, in which Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski defended his title against challenger Brian “T-City” Ortega, McGregor unleashed a bizarre series of tweets.
First, McGregor took to Twitter to poke fun at Volkanovski’s height, physique, and call him a “fart”. “I’d kick this volovski (sp) head off like it was a rugby ball I was kicking. 5’4! And full of muscle! Hahahahaha little fart he is. Not even a little fart. A shart haahahahaj jackass.”
Champ Volkanovski Fires Back at McGregor: “Sounds Like He’s On The Piss!”
He then followed up with what might be Conor McGregor’s way of congratulating a fighter. “Not a bad fight. Congrats shartsy.” At the press conference, Volkanovksi responded with his trademark dry Australian humor.
“Something about sharting, farting, it didn’t really make sense,” he said during the UFC 266 post-fight press conference. “I heard about it. Sounded like he was on the piss. Good for him, so am I, I will be too!”
For the uninitiated, “on the piss” is Australian slang for consuming large quantities of alcohol. Volkanovski continued. “Something about sharting or farting. It didn’t really make sense.
It’s Conor, man. Conor doing Conor things. I don’t know if he wants to come back down to 145lbs, obviously, that will never happen.
That would have stung him a little bit (referring Jose Aldo and Max Holloway as the two greatest featherweights), especially while he’s on the piss, you know?
Anyways, I’m gonna be on the piss, maybe you’ll see some weird f*cking tweets from me too! We’ll see what happens.”
In another interview, Volkanovski reiterated his interest in fighting McGregor, particularly considering the money he stands to make. “Sounds like he’s off his head. So … yeah, good on ya. Enjoy your night!
But aye, come back to featherweight, I’d love it. I reckon he’s a man of the featherweight division, and again, I’ve got the strategy, I’m obviously tough.
And yeah, I’m a whole different beast to what he’s used to in this division. So if he wants to come back down, welcome. I’d love it … hey, it’s not an option. Let’s go for 155. Let’s do it, 155, let’s make it happen.”
Considering Volkanovski’s previous career in rugby league, which saw him at least thirty pounds heavier than the 145lb featherweight limit, and McGregor’s recent outings at lightweight, this could well happen.
