With day two of the WWE’s 2021 draft tonight, it looks like we could be short three of the show’s top performers due to injuries and other procedures.
While this limits reactions to being drafted or traded, it also takes away from any segments or in ring performances that would get the fans’ attention.
The three in question, according to sportswizi.com, are Randy Orton, Alexxa Bliss, and Sheamus.
While Alexa not being there isn’t a surprise as it was announced after Extreme Rules that she was going to be off WWE TV for a few months as she was going to undergo sinus surgery, the others are a surprise.
To an extent, anyway.
Another operation
After his No Holds Barred match against Damian Priest last week, Sheamus announced on Twitter that he’s having another operation on his nose, making this the second one since he previously broke his nose.
While he’ll probably be out for a few weeks, it’s possible he could make an appearance backstage for a promo or other segment, depending on how he’s doing.
It’s hard to imagine they’ll hold up his feud with Priest, but then again last week could’ve been the culmination. It’s hard to tell given the WWE has a cut feuds off short or went too long with them lately.
Unknown injury
For he second time in the last few months, it appears Randy Orton is suffering from an injury that’s not being released, and we may not see him for a couple of weeks yet.
Until then, Riddle will do what he did before with interviews, skits, and the occasional singles or tag match.
It’ll be a smooth transition like last time and we’re sure Riddle will be as entertaining as ever as he gets into trouble here and there.
Surgery and character reboot?
While Alexa takes care of her sinuses, we’re curious if this time off will be used to find her a new gimmick since Charlotte Flair destroyed Lily at Extreme Rules.
Alexa has been fun in her darker persona, and we’d love to see more, but this feels like it could be the end of her Lily Gimmick.
Of course, she could come back even darker and wreak some more havoc, but given how it ended with a loss to Flair gives the impression the WWE has grown tired of it.
Or they don’t know how to book it without the special effects they could do with the Tunderdome.
Maybe it’s both, either one, or another reason. Either way, it’s going to be a while until we see her again and we can’t wait for her return in whatever character.
