Before CM Punk could enter the ring for his return match at All Out – three men tried to stop the match to send a message. 2point0 and Daniel Garcia attacked CM Punk once upon a time, trying to end his lovefest. However, they failed. Tonight, Punk looks to get his own revenge in a dream clash with the rising star Daniel Garcia. Punk wanted a reason to wrestle in Philadelphia, a town that means a lot to him – and facing Garcia is a perfect reason to get into the fray.
CM Punk Has The Right Knee Taken Out
CM Punk had his long bois on once again, a controversial choice for sure. They’d feel each other out in the middle of the ring, Punk getting Garcia down into a pinning predicament for some two counts. The cross arm choke was applied in the middle of the ring, before Punk moved into a sleeper hold. Garcia has four wins in a row, showing why he belongs in the ring with Punk as he wrestled his way free.
Punk would be sent off the ropes, but a big shoulder tackle to take Garcia down. He’s bigger than Garcia, and would be able to take him down to apply a heel hook. Garcia would force Punk back into a corner, and get the taste slapped out of his mouth for this. A big scoop and a slam would get Garcia down twice, before he’d slip out and hit a forearm to the back.
Punk would get Garcia up on his shoulders for the Go To Sleep, but 2point0 would make the save. Garcia started the beatdown of the leg on Punk on the apron – and distracted the referee as 2point0 got some free damage in. Pulling out an old Bret Hart trick, Garcia would apply a Figure Four Leg Lock around the ringpost, before laying in some European uppercuts.
Daniel Garcia Gets Cocky – Pays The Cost
Back in the ring, Garcia would look to submit Punk in the middle of the ring. Punk looked for some kind of comeback, only to have that hurt leg taken out once again. A trade of strikes saw Garcia catch a kick from Punk, before bending back to do more damage. Punk would get some revenge, before stumbling to set up a suplex and take a chop block.
Garcia has taken out the size advantage of CM Punk and removed his striking. However, he’d get cocky as he started to taunt and gave Punk time to recover. Punk dodged a running dropkick in the corner, and Garcia shot for a single leg and took a knee to the face. He’d go blow for blow with CM Punk and hit a high roundhouse. Punk hit a leg lariat before a twisting neckbreaker.
Rising knee in the corner would set up something, but Garcia got a backdrop driver first. Punk would take Garcia down with the Pepsi Twist, and blocked a submission attempt from Garcia. He’d look for the GTS but Garcia countered into the Sharpshooter – but Punk would be able to get free. Garica was shoved into both members of 2point0 on the outside, before Punk dove out onto them all. Back in the ring, springboard clothesline would hit, piledriver was hit, and Anaconda Vice would get the submission win.
Any matches we get with CM Punk are amazing to see. This didn’t really reach the heights possible in a Punk vs. Garcia matchup however, never hitting full gear like Garcia’s matches against Alex Shelly or others of similar stature elsewhere in pro wrestling. This was still the best match yet of Punk in AEW, but still felt like there was more to explore. Punk has explored his moveset even more here, not needing the Go to Sleep for the win. Match Rating: 4.5/5 (**** 1/2)
