For the second time this year, Luis Pena has decided to disappoint fight fans and the wider community by beating up a woman.
Pena, who also goes by the moniker “Violent Bob Ross”, was arrested on Saturday in Coral Springs, FLA, on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and battery, with a $1000 bond on the battery charge.
Luis Pena Arrested for Domestic Battery, Again
The Brownard Sheriff’s office released the below statement to MMAJunkie.com: “At approximately 12:34 a.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office Deerfield Beach deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call near the 200 block of Southeast 12th Avenue in Deerfield Beach.
On scene, deputies made contact with multiple subjects, and Luis Antonio Peña was later detained and taken into custody. Peña was transported to BSO Main Jail and faces one count simple battery and one count domestic violence battery (both misdemeanor). The investigation continues.”
Sadly, this is not the first time Pena has faced trouble with the law for domestic violence. In fact, it’s not even the first time this year. Earlier in 2021, he was charged with robbery by sudden snatching, battery, and criminal mischief when he assaulted his girlfriend. Supposedly, she had been looking at other men on Instagram, and Pena allegedly struck her and broke her phone.
He was released on $8000 bond, awaiting trial, and may face up to five years in prison for that particular crime. Whether that will affect his most recent arrest is unclear.
After the first arrest, Pena took to Twitter to make vague aspirations to “the truth” and even compared himself to OJ Simpson. Yes, that OJ Simpson, the NFL superstar most famous for allegedly murdering his wife.
Unlike Jon Jones’ most recent arrest for a similar crime, which saw near-immediate reactions from the UFC, the promotion has yet to release a statement on Luis Pena.
Generally, they prefer for legal proceedings to play out before taking any action. At this stage, however, with two arrests for domestic violence in such short succession, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the UFC cut ties with Pena.
With two fighters facing domestic violence charges in such quick succession, the UFC will have to take some kind of action. Dana White’s mission as president has always been to bring mixed martial arts away from its “human cockfighting” reputation and into the sporting mainstream. Disgraceful displays like this from its athletes will do nothing to aid the sport’s reputation.
