It’s been a slow build, but it looks like Rey and Dominik Mysterio are going to be split up in the near future and have a feud.
It was bound to happen at some point and the WWE has a long history of using the tag team to create singles stars and breaking up tag teams on a whim is a Vince McMahon thing.
The WWE archives are littered with examples of former teams, great and small, falling to the singles challenge attempt.
The news came via Andrew Zarian on Twitter, so now we just have to wait.
Spoke with a source at WWE.

Not ideal
There have been reports since this was first rumored to happen a couple of months back that Rey Mysterio doesn’t like the idea, that he wants to continue working at his son’s side and keep the family together.
Obviously that’s not going to happen as we’ve seen each of them cost the other matches when trying to help and Dominic’s growing frustration at always being in Rey’s shadow and wanting to do his own thing.
It’s a typical move for the WWE, and while Dominik debuted to good reviews, he’s fallen stale with many fans as he’s more of a copy of Rey than not.
He doesn’t add anything different to a match, and that’s going to be his challenge coming up in this feud.
It may be wise to separate him from Rey and let him work solo with others to better hone his skills, but first he’s going to have to turn heel and turn on his dad.
Proving himself
It’s just the start, and he’s going to be hard pressed to make it work.
To be fair, he tries his best, but he doesn’t have that hard, vulnerable edge that makes a son turning on a father work so well.
This will be his moment to make it work and we wish him the best, but we have some misgivings about this. There’s no doubt Rey and the rest of the roster will help him as much as they can.
Depending on how this goes, we could see Dominic chasing the 24/7 Championship for the next few months until they find something else for him or he’s a potential budget cut.
