This year marks 31 years of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Chris Greicius Award for Celebrity Wish Granting. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns—who will also be on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday—will be in the 2021 class.
The award is named after then 7-year-old Chris Greicius whose wish was to become a police officer and resulted in Make-A-Wish in 1980.
Roman Reigns to Receive the 2021 Chris Greicius Award
The announcement was made today that Reigns would be in the 2021 class of celebrities who have given 100-percent towards granting wishes for kids or are going through serious medical conditions and are inspired by them:
“These individuals and organizations provided their time, talent, and significant influence to grant wishes and drive fundraising results for the world’s largest wish granting organization, allowing more children to experience wishes that can help them deal with and overcome their critical illness.”
WWE has been heavily involved with Make-A-Wish for years with John Cena being honored with the 2009 Chris Greicius Award. Other superstars have continued that work including The Head of the Table.
The Universal Champion will be in a class that includes musician and YouTuber JoJo Siwa, musician Shawn Mendes, Super Bowl LIV Champion QB Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Night, Seán McLoughlin better known as Jacksepticeye, the Texas Rangers, and 2018 Stanley Cup Champion T.J Oshie of the Washington Capitals.
“WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has inspired many wish kids with his confidence and courage both in and out of the ring, especially given the health challenges that he has had to overcome. As tough as his in-ring persona can be, he’s nothing but kind and caring when he spends time with wish kids. Roman has also been incredibly generous with his willingness to participate in promotional videos and campaigns that help raise money to grant more wishes.”
