With Jorge Masvidal injured out of UFC 269 next month, he’s looking to reschedule the fight as soon as possible. “Gamebred” told The MMA Hour that he wants Edwards as a priority, but has former teammate and number one ranked welterweight contender Colby Covington as a close second.
“If [Edwards] says no, then I’m going to pass, then Colby’s b*tch-ass it is. First time I’m coming off two losses, I’ve got to make sure I go in there healthy and well to give him my all.
Masvidal: “If Leon Edwards says no, then Colby’s b*tch Ass it is!”
If he wants to wait until Februrary or March, I can decapitate him on sight for the world to see. If he doesn’t, what can I do? We will meet eventually.” Masvidal blasted Covington, labelling his former teammate a “coward”.
“I would like to address Leon’s b*tch-ass first, and then we’ll take care of the fragile rat guy – now he’s changing his gimmick – now he’s a guy and sh*t.
[Kamaru] Usman beat his ass so hard, now he’s a nice guy. Wow, what a f*cking turn of events, huh? That f*cking coward.”
Masvidal is very open to the idea of fighting Colby Covington. In fact, one idea floated by many pundits is to use their vicious, public rivalry as fuel for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. In many ways, it makes sense. The pair could coach one team each, talk trash for the season to hype a fight, and the former roommates and teammates could deliver a season-ending coach’s fight.
Masvidal, however, had a taste of reality TV with his time as a contestant on Exatlon Estados Unidos, and says he would need a handsome paycheck to do TV ever again.
“I will have to have a nice, handsome reward if I’m doing sh*t like that. Six weeks? You gotta pay me if you want to see folks train with ‘Gamebred.’ If not, leave me at home, training.”
Jorge Masvidal will be hoping to fight early next year if he can, but Leon Edwards is already gunning for a title shot against Kamaru Usman. Usman remains undefeated in the UFC, and Edwards hasn’t lost a fight since his loss to Usman many years ago.
Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington, on the other hand, have a serious score to settle, and both are fresh off the back off a second loss to Usman.
