It’s not uncommon for fans to want to prove they are tougher than professional wrestlers. With only a waist high barricade to keep them away from the performers. Even legends like Bret Hart aren’t safe, as he was attacked during a Hall of Fame speech a few years back. The latest incident was last night on Monday Night RAW, as a fan attacked Seth Rollins.
WWE Hand Suspect Over To The NYPD After Seth Rollins Was Attacked
As Seth Rollins was making his way to the back after an encounter with Finn Balor, a fan rushed him on the ramp. Rollins was taken down, and referees helped restore order as WWE did their best to cover the incident. The fan would be arrested by the NYPD soon after. WWE released the following statement in regards to the incident.
“WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously. The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The individual was a 24 year old male by the name of Elisah Spencer. He has been charged with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs. Rollins was a bit banged up by the encounter, but refused medical aid as he only suffered a busted lip.
The Fan Believed Rollins Scammed Him
Normally, this is where the story would close. Police have their man, Seth Rollins is not seriously harmed, and things roll on. But this story takes a rather odd twist when it comes to the motives. The suspect believed that Seth Rollins scammed him. He had been speaking to someone referring to themselves Rollins, and had been scammed out of at least 500$. This was revealed when his social media accounts were found.
This was a run of the mill catfishing scheme, where someone uses pictures and information found online to try and trick people into believing they aren’t. When it comes to celebrities like Seth Rollins, it’s hard to fall for such tricks, but the chance is always there. Always be sure that who you are talking to is actually who they say they are. Especially before sending any type of gift or present. Odd motives aside, this is just another incident of a fan taking things too far, and likely won’t be the last.
