After he win over Sasha Banks at WrestleMania, Bianca Belair was on top of the world and growing as the Smackdown Women’s Champion, but that changed when she was derailed at SummerSlam.
She was scheduled to face Banks in a rematch, but Banks was unable to participate. So, the WWE went with a trusted former champion and had Becky Lynch return earlier than scheduled and win in 26 seconds.
The fans were rightfully upset as Belair was built up into the EST of WWE and to lose in 26 seconds just didn’t make any sense. It still doesn’t.
But that’s the route that Vince McMahon chose, and they concluded their feud over the next few weeks with some of the most awkward promos ever as fans don’t want to boo Lynch and often cheered louder for her.
It was clear to see Belair was uncomfortable as she worked through it and she’ll be a better performer down the road for the experience.

Belair recently sat down with Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat to talk about her experience at SummerSlam.

“SummerSlam, that was a day. That whole day was so chaotic. Everything was so last minute. This one sitting beside me here [Montez Ford] really kept me intact and constantly checked my perspective.
“I was champion, and then to lose my title to Becky Lynch in 26 seconds. It’s a hard blow, especially because I feel like I was just getting started and it got snatched away so quickly.”
Great support system
Chaos and last minute changes have become the hallmark of WWE programing in many viewers eyes, especially given how many current and former stars have come out to say as much.
In many cases as of late, these changes haven’t been for the better as they’ve left fans scratching their heads.
This match was a perfect example as losing to Lynch wouldn’t have been as big a problem for many had it been a hard hitting and pulse pounding match. Instead of was like a Goldberg squash. And in 26 seconds?
We love how her husband was there to help keep her balanced and calm. They’re a great couple, and one we wager fans wouldn’t mind seeing played up more in storylines.
But until then, it looks like Bianca will be stuck in mid card storylines for the foreseeable future as her role was played out and modeling her after Drew McIntyre and the entitled aura of getting chance after chance wore thin.
It’s a great time for her to bounce back and expand her move list and make any tweaks she needs to break new ground. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Bianca Belair.
