Last Saturday, Jeff Hardy was sent home after he appeared sluggish in a 6 man tag match and left in the middle of the match.
Just shy of a week since then, Sean Ross of Fightful.com reported on Twitter that Jeff Hardy was released today.
As of this writing, the WWE hasn’t released a statement, but there are reports that the WWE offered to pay for Jeff to go to rehab and he refused and he was released as a result.
How true the reason for him being released and whether it’s substance abuse related is something we’ll have to wait and see as more news comes out.

Coming clean
Jeff has been proactive in sharing his personal experiences with his past addiction issues. He even appeared on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions and talked about what it was like to be arrested for illegally buying drugs online and how it was rock bottom for him.
He spent his time in WWE since returning from an injury dealing with his past demons as he came back accused of running Elias over.
Sheamus was the culprit wearing a wig, but Jeff was found semi-conscious and barely able to function.
While the storyline was bad at best and was quickly forgotten, it led to a good feud between he and Sheamus.
Other possibilities
While the reports of WWE’s reason for releasing him appear to be speculation at this point, there is the possibility that he could’ve been injured and they don’t want to pay him to recover from another injury.
It wouldn’t be the first time a talent was released after suffering an injury.
And if he did slip into some old habits, there’s every chance he wanted to deal with it between he and his family and that could be why he could’ve turned down the WWE’s offer.
Jeff’s given his body and health to the WWE and other companies for over 20 years, and we’re grateful for everything he’s done. Hopefully, he can become a success story once again.
The struggle is never over and everyone slips, and the fact he keeps battling back shows plenty of character. We wish him nothing but the best and hope he gets the help he needs.
If Jeff slipped and fell into old habits, we wish him nothing but the best.
