WWE are once again taking Wrestlemania to Dallas, Texas. This is the first time since Wrestlemania 32, which was able to pack a reported crowd of 101,763 fans in – and 2021 brings the third two night Wrestlemania. While we can expect a set of massive cards for these shows, WWE right now has plans of featuring the legendary Stone Cold Steve Austin in a major role.
WWE Wants Stone Cold In A Major Role – But He Won’t Be Wrestling
In a report from WrestleVotes, we’d get the following information.
“Talked to a few different sources this weekend & heard the same thing, WWE is very interested in having Steve Austin as a part of WrestleMania this year in Dallas. Not in a wrestling role, but a meaningful part of the event outside of just appearing. Up to creative at this point.”
It’d be next to impossible to get Stone Cold to return to the ring, with him making it clear that he is very happy with retirement. He’s likely turned down plenty of offers from WWE since he has nothing left to prove – and for the love of professional wrestling, doesn’t want to show up in a match for it to be a let down.
Wrestlemania Host, Or Special Guest Referee?
This leaves two options for Stone Cold at the event. The first is being the host of the event – which was handled by Hulk Hogan & Titus O’Neil. Having Stone Cold show up throughout the shows will be a fine enough use of his talent. It’s a boring choice, but WWE always wants someone to handle hosting duties.
The second is having him as a special guest referee for a major match. This allows Stone Cold to make a big entrance, which could be a double edged sword – as no one on the modern WWE roster will be able to match the pop that we would hear from Austin in Texas.
There was only one case of Austin being a guest referee at Wrestlemania, with him being there for the first Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar match. Fans would gladly accept him being in the ring for a match that would top that one, which would not be hard.
If Stone Cold is used as a referee, it’s easy to imagine him being in for Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar – the biggest match currently set for the two night event. How would you use Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 38? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
