Tonight, Kazuchika Okada enters yet another Tokyo Dome main event. He is the winner of the G1 Climax, and hopes to take the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from current champion Shingo Takagi. It won’t be easy, as Shingo has had Okada’s number in the past two encounters, leading their matches 2 wins to 1. However, Okada is already looking to the future – and has detailed some AEW stars he hopes to face soon.
Okada Wants To Face CM Punk & Bryan Danielson
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Okada would be asked about wrestlers he hopes to face in the future. He’s got a few ideas, and two of them are found on the roster of AEW.
“Danielson and Punk would make for some incredible matches. A lot of those dream match scenarios are about getting excited for the possibilities, and once the match is done, it’s done. So it is important to keep that excitement and anticipation, I think. Still, if we wait too long, they’ll both retire eventually, so I want to face them both while they’re still active.”
Very few would deny these as big money matches, and them happening in either AEW or NJPW would be huge for both companies. Another AEW opponent for Okada is one of his greatest rivals in Kenny Omega, but everyone already knows they are due for another match.
Kazuchika Okada Wants His Best Friends Back In NJPW
However, Punk & Danielson are not the only AEW talents who he wants to connect with. Recently, Best Friends & Orange Cassidy have been added for his CHAOS faction, with even Trent Barretta’s mom being welcomed to their ranks. Despite this, he’s been unable to connect with them due to COVID-19, but hopes to have them back in NJPW very soon.
“If Orange Cassidy and Best Friends are able to show up in New Japan, there is no doubt that would be a lot of fun. The sooner the whole pandemic settles down, the better as far as that’s concerned.” Okada said during the same interview. Right now, having some fresh faces for the NJPW roster is all fans ask for, and bringing a top tag team, as well as singles stars like Wheeler Yuta & Orange Cassidy to NJPW would really get things interesting again.
