Oney Lorcan Signs New Multi-Year Deal With WWE

Oney Lorcan Signs New Multi-Year Deal With WWE

There was some speculation that NXT’s resident brawler, Oney Lorcan would be leaving the company as his initial contract came to an end. He changed his online moniker back to that of ‘Biff Busick’ and started to build hype for a return to his roots.

That speculation has come to an end, Lorcan himself reporting that he has signed a new multi-year deal with the company. While this dashes my dreams of seeing him in New Japan Pro Wrestling, where his hard hitting and frantic style would fit perfect; it is still fantastic news.

He delivered the news in typical Twitter fashion, aggressively and in all caps. “I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT I HAVE AGREED TO A NEW MULTI YEAR CONTRACT AGREEMENT WITH WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT MAY THE WRESTLING GODS HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOULS” was what Lorcan had to say.

    Oney Lorcan and His Future

Oney Lorcan has been a fixture in two distinct parts of WWE. These are the NXT tag team division alongside partner Danny Burch, and the Cruiserweight division.

The WWE Cruiserweight championship being renamed to the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. We can expect him to take a shot at current champion Lio Rush. Rush is currently feuding with fellow upstart Angel Garza, but after they’re finished with each other, Rush (or Garza) will need a challenger. Could do much worse than Oney Lorcan.

In the NXT tag team division, The Undisputed Era reign supreme. Current champions Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish are untouchable, especially as Roderick Strong and Adam Cole are never far. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch have tried in the past to unseat Undisputed Era as tag team champions, so we can expect another attempt in 2020.

Would He Have Succeeded Outside Of WWE?

Someone like Oney Lorcan isn’t exactly a megastar like Jon Moxley, but all companies need dependable midcard talent. Lorcan raised his stock in WWE, but wouldn’t have been able to walk into any company and be a star.

He might have had some success in AEW or Impact, and a match with Will Ospreay would have been a classic, but NXT is a perfect place for him.

He’s a very dependable talent who helps fill their lacking divisions, and could be built up as an underdog challenger for the NXT Championship someday.

Time will tell if Oney made the right choice sticking with WWE, but we need to wait and see. Are you excited to see Oney stay in WWE? Or were you hoping to see him go to another company to kick some ass? Sound off in the comments below and stay tuned to The Overtimer for more wrestling news and speculation.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
