WWE NXT UK Champion WALTER was set to make an appearance at Evolve in Chicago. He was to face EVOLVE Champion Josh Briggs in the main event of Evolve 142. But while in the windy city, his car was broken into and the NXT UK Championship has been stolen, along with WALTER’s passport.
This is one of many smash and grabs to occur in the area near Logan Square in Chicago, and Timothy Thatcher’s rental car was also broken into around the same time.
WWE NXT UK Championship and Its Fate
One advantage WWE has in this situation, is that if the belt is unable to be recovered, NXT UK is a taped show. They would need to have a replacement made by the time NXT UK Takeover Blackpool II rolls around, on January 12, 2020. Hopefully they are able the find the belt before that time, or have an extra copy sitting around to use in the meantime.
This isn’t the first time a title belt has been stolen this year, as in September, the AEW Championship was stolen from Chris Jericho. This happened in Tallahassee, Florida when Jericho stopped at Longhorn Steakhouse and it was stolen from his limo. They were able to recover the belt before it was an issue.
WWE has time to figure out the situation, and unfortunatly cars get broken into and valuables stolen every day. Earlier this year, metal band He Is Legend had their van broken into, and numerous things were stolen including the lead singer Schuylar Croom’s insulin.
What Will WALTER Do?
The more distressing situation is WALTER had his passport stolen. WWE will have to get that situation sorted out, as WALTER lives in the UK, and travels to the United States for occasional appearances on NXT & indy shows like Evolve. I suppose in the meantime, WALTER could have an increased presence on WWE NXT, but without a passport travel is going to be very hard for him. Again, he has until January 12, 2020 to get this situation resolved so he will be able to be in Blackpool to defend his title against Joe Coffey in the main event.
This situation is awful for everyone involved, and people who break into vehicles and steal belongings are the scum of the earth, I can understand stealing a title as that could get you some money, but stealing a passport just screws someone over.
