Former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo is making no secret of his hatred for Brandon Moreno. Moreno dethroned Figueiredo as the flyweight champ in their rematch, and Figueiredo is screaming for vengeance when the pair face off for a third time at UFC 270.
Figueiredo told the Trocação Franca podcast that he’s got all the dirt on Brandon Moreno from his former training partner, Henry Cejudo, and is more fired up than ever to finish the champ.
Figueiredo Promises to Knock Out “Traitor” Moreno
““Brandon Moreno is dirty. That’s all I have to say about him. He’s dirty. He’s a traitor. When I came to Scottsdale, [Ariz. at the Fight Ready gym,] Henry Cejudo told me about his betrayal. He lived with Henry Cejudo here and then became [Joseph] Benavidez’s sparring partner to fight Cejudo, so that was his biggest betrayal.
That’s why Cejudo is coming with me [to the fight], to look into his eyes. Cejudo will be in my corner to look at this little punk’s face, and I’ll knock him out. Mark my words.”
The first fight between Moreno and Figueiredo ended in a draw, while the second saw Moreno submit Figueiredo with a rear naked choke to earn the flyweight title.
The revelation that Henry Cejudo has joined forces with Figueiredo to defeat Brandon Moreno is somewhat surprising. Much of Moreno’s public persona consists of his infatuation with Lego and video games. Despite this, the deposed champ is feeling confident and calm ahead of UFC 270, which he attributes to training alongside Henry Cejudo.
“I’m glad to have him by my side. That gives me self-confidence. I’m 100 percent focused on this fight, brother. I can’t wait to go back to Brazil and take this belt with me. The fire is burning inside me to enter that octagon and get over with it already.
“Every predator is calm and patient before he attacks the prey. I’ve always wanted to go for the kill from start to finish. I got in there to knock them out.”
Figueiredo vs Moreno 3 will co-headline UFC 270 alongside the heavyweight title fight between Ciryl Gane and Francis Ngannou. In a moment of synchronicity, both headline fights feature grudge matches, one at the lowest men’s weight division and the other at the highest.
Do you think Deiveson Figueiredo can reclaim his UFC title, or is the flyweight division now firmly in the Brandon Moreno era? Let us know in the comments.
