Criminals armed with petrol bombs – more commonly known as Molotov cocktails – attacked Conor McGregor’s Black Forge Inn in Dublin, Ireland. Fortunately, nobody was injured, and no damage to the property was incurred, and the Irish police are investigating.
In a statement delivered to MMAFighting, Black Forge management confirmed the incident, stating that the attack was “unprovoked”.
Conor McGregor’s Pub Petrol Bombed
“After hours last night it appears that criminals made an unprovoked effort to inflict damage to the Black Forge Inn. There was no damage done to any patrons, employees, or the Forge, and Mr. McGregor was not on the premises at the time of the incident. The gardai have opened an investigation into the event. We are open and busy as always.”
The Irish police, An Gardai Siochana, echoed these sentiments, urging any witnesses to come forward. “Gardai are investigating an incident of attempted criminal damage at a licensed premises on the Drimnagh Road, Crumlin last night, Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
No damage was done to the premises. Gardai are appealing for witnesses in relation to this incident is asked to contact Gardai.”
McGregor bought the pub earlier this year for approximately $2.2 million. Although he has rebranded the venue as The Black Forge Inn, a decidedly upmarket bar and restaurant, his association with the venue is long-standing. Infamously, when the pub was still called The Marble Arch, Conor McGregor punched an old man in the head, which was caught on CCTV.
The incident led to a police investigation, Conor McGregor was slammed in the press. Allegedly, the assault happened when McGregor, promoting his Proper 12 whiskey at the bar, offered the old man a glass, which he refused. Conor then decided to punch the old man in the head.
Following his purchase of The Marble Arch, he rechristened it The Black Forge and banned the man he punched from the venue. McGregor has since frequented the Dublin nightspot, heavily promoting it via social media.
Just as his Proper 12 whiskey was positioned to compete with Jameson, McGregor has started brewing a nitrogen stout that appears to be a direct competitor with Ireland’s most famous liquid export: Guinness.
It appears that his stocks of Black Forge stout and Proper 12 whiskey were undamaged by the arson attempt. McGregor remains sidelined by the broken leg he sustained fighting Dustin Poirier in July and his return to the UFC – if it happens – remains unclear.
