Randy Orton’s had a long and storied career, and he’s a lock for the WWE Hall of Fame when it comes time, but there’s more for him to accomplish before his in ring career is over.
His chance to beat Ric Flair’s world championship record remains near and he could achieve that in the next year or so, but there are two other records he has a chance to tie or break this year.
Since it looks like RK-Bro is in the early stages of breaking up, we have a feeling it’ll come at the Royal Rumble when Orton send Riddle over the top rope. But that’s not all.
Royal Rumble records
Two records are in reach for Orton this year, and there’s every chance he’ll find a way to pull both of them off if he’s given the chance.
The first and easier to achieve of the two is tying to breaking Chris Jericho’s cumulative time record in the Royal Rumble at four hours 59 minutes and 33 seconds.
Orton is only shy of that by 27 minutes and 46 seconds. That’s definitely in reach if he enters early enough and can manage to avoid elimination.
This is a great sign of longevity, and Orton’s career has been that and more despite the possibilities of it going sideways or not even starting had Jim Ross not convinced Vince McMahon to sign him.
More than a number
The other record Orton can tie is Royal Rumble wins. Currently, Steve Austin sits at the top with three, and if Orton wins he’ll move up and tie Austin for the most wins in WWE history.
This is a tall task with the talent the WWE has as well was their desire to use older talent to put the younger guys over.
They’ve seemingly moved on from giving AJ Styles a top championship and Orton could be next in that line, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to help a younger talent if he wins.
Depending on how things go and who’s the champion, we could see Orton challenge Seth Rollins if he wins.
But if he doesn’t it’s not the end of the world as Orton still shares some rarified air with two wins. The others with two Royal Rumble wins are Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Edge, John Cena, and Batista.
