One of the things that sets Impact Wrestling apart from other promotions is their taped format. They will batch tape weeks of TV at a time, and that allows talent to get weeks worth of matches out of the way – leaving their schedule open for more bookings. The main flaw with this approach is that spoilers will spread like wildfire, as the crowd in the building all have phones at the ready. This is how we know that at the latest tapings, Matt Cardona would win his first championship in Impact Wrestling.
Matt Cardona Finally Wins Gold In Impact Wrestling
This isn’t the Impact Wrestling World Championship however, which Cardona unsuccessfully challenged for at Hard to Kill. Instead, Cardona has claimed the fairly new Impact Digital Media Championship. He defeated champion Jordynne Grace to claim the belt – using a chair shot along the way to turn heel in the process. Cardona was a heel everywhere but Impact Wrestling up to this point, but has finally turned.
This new championship is still looking to find it’s footing, but considering how Cardona is just about everywhere – and once got an unofficial Internet Championship over with fans? He’s the perfect choice to carry this championship and finally get some eyes on it. We will likely not see him carry the belt into GCW: WRLD on GCW for his match with Joey Janela however, as he will need to wait for this episode to air.
Other Notable Matches From These Tapings
Other matches that happened during these tapings included a long awaited clash between iconic New Japan Pro Wrestling tag team Guerillas of Destiny & Good Brothers. This match has been built up by both teams for a while – building into a slow burning civil war between Bullet Club in Japan and The Elite, who Good Brothers buddied up with to get on AEW TV. Speaking of Bullet Club, we’d also see their leader Jay White in action – with him facing off with Eric Young.
