Cedric Alexander: The Fall Of The Age Of Alexander

Cedric Alexander at one point was one of the most exciting stars in all of WWE. Making his debut for the company in the Cruiserweight Classic, where he notably gave Kota Ibushi all he could handle, Cedric was seemingly set for stardom in WWE. He lost that match, but received high praise, with the fans in attendance chanting “Please Sign Cedric”. He instantly had a connection with fans.

    Cedric Alexander on 205 Live

Upon the launch of the Crusierweight Division & 205 Live, you would have assumed he would have instantly been a star of the division. Instead, he intially entered a storyline involing Noam Dar & Alicia Fox. He would get injured for a few months, but would return to defeat Noam Dar in a I Quit match to win that feud on the July 11th, 2017 episode of 205 Live.

Following this, things would be quiet for a few months for Cedric Alexander, until he won the chance to face then Crusierweight Champion Enzo Amore at the 2018 Royal Rumble. That was before Enzo would be stripped of the title and released due to sexual assault allegations made towards Amore. The vacant title would remain unclaimed as it would be made a prize for a tournament.

At Wrestlemania 34, Cedric Alexander would defeat Mustafa Ali to claim the title, becoming the Heart of 205 Live. He would reign for 181 days before losing to Buddy Murphy at Super Show-Down in Austraila. Alexander would remain in the division, but after losing his rematch at the 2018 edition of TLC for thr title and failing to make the finals of the number one contenders tournament for a shot at Wrestlemania 35, it was clear it was time for Alexander to shake up his career.

Cedric Alexander on RAW and His Future

Unfortunately, Alexander would not make much impact on RAW. He defeated Cesaro in his debut for the brand, then would vanish to main event for two months. Cedric re-emerged for a mini feud with Drew McIntyre which he lost. An attempted run at King of the Ring would be dashed in the second round by the eventual winner, Baron Corbin. He would most notably face AJ Styles for the United States Championship, but after being defeated at Clash of Champions and again on RAW, he would not become US champion. The last reported sighting of Cedric Alexander was a 3 minute loss to Mojo Rawley on Main Event.

With someone as talented as Cedric Alexander being barely used as more than a jobber or someone to stick into a throwaway title match, fans are getting annoyed. I predict with Luke Harper gone from WWE, Cedric will enter his slot of fans wishing for him to be free to apply his craft elsewhere. His wife recently signed with AEW as Big Swole, so working with her might be on his radar for 2020.

Whatever 2020 holds for Cedric, I just hope it’s more notable than his run through 2019. It was a nothing year for him, and it sucks to see any talent underused.

What are your hopes for Cedric Alexander in 2020? Let us know down below in the comments and make sure to come back to The Overtimer for more news & speculation daily.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
