This is one way to get fans’ attention, as the January 15, 2020 taping of AEW Dynamite is scheduled as a Bash at the Beach experience. The fact it’s taking place in Miami, Florida is the perfect setting and should entice fans from all over to make the trip.
This introduces AEW’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea, a nine day wrestling, special events, and live music extravaganza host by AEW world champion Chris Jericho aboard Jericho’s own cruise ship. The event is sold out, as thousands of fans will be taking part in what is expected to be a must see/be at event. Not to mention the round trip cruise from Miami to the Bahamas, as if that perk is needed, right?
Was there a mention of wrestling?
Yes, there was, because the January 22 episode of AEW Dynamite is being recorded on the cruise ship.
This means there will be two recorded wrestling events during this time that’ll showcase not only AEW’s talent, but give fans the experience of a lifetime.
As Chris Jericho said in a press release, “AEW’s Bash at the Beach events will deliver nine unforgettable days of wrestling and much more from the hottest company in the business today. Thousands of the Friends Of Jericho onboard the SOLD OUT ‘Rock N Wrestling Rager At Sea’ will have the experience of their lives, and now millions more will be able to watch AEW Dynamite along with us, as we break out the bubbly together from Miami to the Bahamas.”
Chris Jericho has made a name for himself for these types of events as his foray into the cruise ship business started in 2018 where he made headlnes for hosting another wrestling event with the ROH (Ring of Honor) that featured some of the Elites.
Bash at the Beach
What’s interesting here is the name Bash at the Beach. It’s a former WCW pay-per-view event that ran from 1994 to 2000. It was one of the cooler things WCW did under Eric Bischoff from a fan’s standpoint.
These were fun and had a party atmosphere that really drew people in. Sure, it was a spectacle like any wrestling spectacle, but it broke boundaries that other promotions hadn’t or were unwilling to do.
The funny part about this is it’s home of one of the landmark moments in wrestling. In 1996’s Bash at the Beach in Daytona Beach, Florida, Hulk Hogan turned his back on his Hulkamaniacs by joining the Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) to form the N.W.O. (New World Order) the single most important/influential wrestling angle and stable in history.
For those of you wondering about a possible WWE lawsuit over use of “Bash at the Beach,” Cody Rhodes owns the name. He filed a copyright notice in March of this years since Vince McMahon and the WWE apparently didn’t want it.
This is a win for All Elite Wrestling no matter how you cut it, and this looks like it’s going to be an awesome event.
