In AEW, there is one heel that stands above all others. This is Maxwell Jacob Friedman. After costing Cody Rhodes his shot at the AEW Championship at Full Gear when he threw the towel in, then kicked Cody in the nuts. This was the moment when MJF became the most hated man in AEW. He would then lead Cody on a wild ride to a match at Revolution. MJF would sneak away with a win, but only wrestle a single match since that day, a six man tag where he teamed with Butcher & Blade against Lucha Express. Why has he not been wrestling?
MJF Has Mentioned An Issue On Twitter
Responding to a fan who asked MJF when he is going to try and fight Jon Moxley, we potentially got the reason for his inactivity within the ring this year. He would say the following. “My Issue has gotten worse, Its looking like I Might need surgery. I’m genuinely trying my very best to comeback for you guys.” before saying he will be taking a break from Twitter.
This is a follow up to a tweet from a week ago, when he was asked why he has only done a handful of matches in AEW. “I wish I could put my body on the line more for you guys. I truly care so much about you being entertained during your hour of need. Unfortunately something awful has happened to me and it has gradually gotten worse. I can’t comment on what the issue is at this time.”
These are all the details we currently have on this, and given the history of MJF and his trolling of fans, it could very well be his latest attempt at this. It is never easy to tell with him, it could be a serious injury or a bad hangnail. Should MJF have an actual issue, we hope he has a speedy recovery, even if he likely doesn’t want that hopes from anyone.
Will His Undefeated Streak Continue To An AEW Championship?
In AEW, MJF has never been beaten in a singles match. He has a perfect 5-0 record, including his huge win over Cody Rhodes. Should he not actually have a major issue, he is very likely to be among the next people to face AEW Champion Jon Moxley, and he could be crafty enough to unseat the dominant champion. AEW might choose to hold this match off until they have crowds again, as that would be a moment that you need a packed arena for.
