Kenny Omega was set to face Joey Janela on this night, and this would have been their third encounter in AEW, Omega having two wins over Janela. A last minute change instead gave us a first time encounter, as Omega faces the partner of Janela, Sonny Kiss. Kiss hasn’t had much singles spotlight in AEW outside of a match with Cody Rhodes, but will take any chance to get the spotlight. An upset win here would launch his career to the next level.
Sadly for Sonny Kiss, Kenny Omega has truly arrived in AEW now. A new entrance combined with a long introduction from Justin Roberts running down everything he’s accomplished from busting Meltzer’s 5 star scale 7 times to winning many wrestler of the year awards? Kenny Omega is feeling like the Final Boss of Professional Wrestling again. A man who has only been matched by absolute legends.
Gone is the man who doubts himself in the ring, he knows who he is. This man lost his confidence when he left NJPW, but he’s Kenny Omega, the best wrestler on the planet. You need to become god to beat this man, and that’s not Sonny Kiss.
Kenny Omega Has Arrived
The bell rang, and this one started with a show of respect. A handshake and a bowing of heads. It ended a few seconds later after a V-Trigger and the One Winged Angel. This tournament has brought out a Kenny Omega we haven’t seen in a long time, and he’s not going to waste time with Sonny Kiss in a long match.
Omega would help Kiss to his feet, and give a hug before heading out of the ring. Meanwhile, Kiss is probably still trying to figure out what the hell just happened. One second, he was about to enter the biggest match of his career, ten later and he was dropped on his head.
Kenny Omega will go on to face the winner of Penta El Zero M & Rey Fenix next week. If this was any indication of how that match will go, they might be better off waiting out the 20 minutes and having Omega slip to the finals uncontested.
