If the rumors are true, we will soon see the sixteen time World Champion turned Hollywood Star return to WWE. John Cena is expected back for Summerslam later this year, with him expected to face Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. However, one other man wants to face Big Match John, and that’s the former two time WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre.
Drew McIntyre Has Never Faced Cena One on One
Two weeks ago, McIntyre was speaking with Melissa Nathoo of On Demand Entertainment and he would state that one of his current dream matches is facing John Cena in a first ever singles match.
“100% I hope it does happen. I’ve been around John since I was 22 years old. I just turned 36 last week and we’ve never had a significant singles match. We’ve actually never had any singles match, which blows my mind. We’ve been in tag matches together, multi-man matches together, but never had a singles match.”
He would go on to say that with his current spot in WWE, a match with Cena would be a major draw. As crowds return to the mix, WWE is going to need matches for fans to get excited about, and having already bested one of Cena’s greatest rivals in Randy Orton, it would be a great way to further prove McIntyre as a top guy.
John Cena Doesn’t Want To Get McIntyre’s Hopes Up
While speaking with Nathoo about the latest Fast & The Furious movie, Cena would be reminded of the challenge from McIntyre. His response would be one that doesn’t make fans optimistic about this match, as Cena remained realistic.
“I’ve got more matches left in the WWE. I’m not done. But I’ve never approached anything like, ‘I’d like to work with this person or ‘I want to have a match with this person,’ because I don’t make those choices. They say, ‘Hey, we’d like you to do this.’ Alright, it’s time to go to work and that’s really allowed me to enjoy every step of the way. I think if we build up expectations in our head, like I hate to say this to Drew, but if that never happens, how is supposed to feel about that?”
