When inactive Bellator fighter and Conor McGregor teammate Dillon Danis offered to “retire” from fighting if he got the chance to box Jake Paul, journalist and host of The MMA Hour Ariel Helwani immediately called him out. Helwani took to Twitter to brutally and relentlessly troll Dillon Danis for “begging” Jake Paul to fight him.
“Guys if you think life sucks right now just think you could have begged for 3 years to fight an 0-0 YouTuber and 3 years later still not be popular enough or good enough to even be considered a worthy opponent for him. Imagine that. In other words, you could be @dillondanis.”

Helwani continued in the same vein: “Hey guys follow me real quick and I’ll follow you back and pay you 1k. Ffs. Get a grip Dillon. Who acts like this? 3…2…1 before ol DD texts me hey bro why don’t you like me? Like, I thought we were cool bro. Can’t wait for the witty tweet reply, too. And then he’ll call for a truce and then ask me to RT his tweets every two seconds. What a pleasure.”
Helwani also pointed out that Danis, at this point, is effectively retired, as he has not fought in three years. “Hey guys if I lose to Jake I’ll retire.” Retire from what? Social media? You already don’t fight.”
Helwani’s final blow came when he tagged Bellator president Scott Coker, who runs the promotion that Danis supposedly fights for, that “the begging is unbecoming”.
“Anyway. Maybe this will be the year he accepts your challenge Dillon!! I personally hope he does so you can leave us the f alone with your stupid tweets and lame social media skillz. Save us, @ScottCoker. The begging is unbecoming. Please. For the love of God save us.”
Dillon Danis has had a troubled couple of years. Injuries initially kept him from competition, but a recent run-in with the law hasn’t helped, either. Danis seems to spend more time on social media than in the gym, and has shown no signs of a competitive return. In fact, we’ll probably see his old training partner Conor McGregor – who is still recovering from a broken leg – fight again before we see Dillon Danis even consider another fight.
Jake Paul, meanwhile, is clearly more focused on his ongoing feud with Dana White. With the Tyron Woodley fight selling far fewer pay-per-views than expected, he’ll need his next opponent to be a far bigger name than Dillon Danis.
