Retired UFC veteran believes that Jake Paul is the real deal. In fact, “Cowboy” compared Paul’s rise as a boxer to Conor McGregor’s meteoric rise in the UFC. Cerrone appeared on Thiccc Boi recently to compare the two, and demand a piece of Paul’s massive boxing earnings.
“The Jake Paul phenomenon is kind of crazy, it’s gotten everybody calling him out and it’s kind of like the big Conor [McGregor] push [from early in McGregor’s career]. That’s what I feel like is happening with Jake Paul.
Cowboy Cerrone Wants Jake Paul Boxing Match, Compares Paul to McGregor
Everyone is wanting to fight him, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t because that’s a big money fight. But you can’t take away [his wins]. Like everyone is saying those are like rigged fights — I think he’s hitting hard. You know what I mean? I really do think those are legitimate shots and strikes, and he’s been practising boxing and [the results] are showing he’s whooping their asses.
So I don’t think there’s any mis-hype. I think he’s got something going on there.” Cerrone faced McGregor a few years back, succumbing to a knockout in forty seconds of the first round. Despite a lackluster end to his UFC career, Cerrone boasts the second-most wins and third-most bouts in UFC history. However, despite his legendary status in the MMA community, Cerrone feels no obligation to stand up for the sport against Paul, who boasts boxing wins over such luminaries as Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, and Ben Askren.
“Cowboy” simply wants to make some money out of the Jake Paul boxing phenomenon while he can. Cerrone retired from the UFC in May of this year after losing to Jim Miller, with the fight marking a seventh consecutive loss for the UFC veteran. At 39 years old, “Cowboy” Cerrone could still compete at a high level, and wants the chance to pick up some cash while he still can. A Jake Paul boxing match might just be the ticket to a cushy retirement.
“Would I like to fight him? F***, of course. How could I say no to f****** millions of dollars. So I would definitely go out there and do it.
But I’m not sitting over here and saying, ‘Jake, you’re a f****** YouTuber, ain’t worth a f***.’ Nah, man. You’re making money. Make the f****** money. And if you want to throw some of that money my way, I’m with you.”
