Darren Till earned the ire of UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya at UFC London. Till jumped into the Octagon to celebrate with teammate Tom Aspinall after Aspinall’s first-round submission win over Alexander Volkov, to which “The Last Stylebender” was filmed replying “it’s not your moment”.
Darren Till, appearing on The MMA Hour alongside his new best mate Khamzat Chimaev, had a few choice words for the 185 pound champ.
Darren Till Fires Back at Adesanya: “I think that s*** is lovely”
“It’s OK when he’s posting videos crying about his teammates? I think that s*** is lovely. But when Tom tells me to get on the cage and [celebrate] the moment, the guy who I know once wanted to retire — Tom told me that — and now look at where he is, he’s the best heavyweight on the planet, I can’t be happy for the guy? All because I lost a fight? So his little f****** yes man, his f****** … come on, let me be happy for Tom.
You’re with your team when they lose and you’re with your team when they win.” Darren Till continued, singing the praises of UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall. Aspinall has been something of a dark horse in the UFC heavyweight division for years, silently taking out opponents with early finishes in early prelim slots. His headline appearance at UFC London, however, marks a charge at the heavyweight title for the soft-spoken Mancunian.
“Trust me, you know who my sparring partner was for 15 years — it was Tom Aspinall. He’s one of the greatest in the world right now in MMA. Khamzat is the same, mate.”
Till then praised his new teammate, Khamzat Chimaev, and his championship mentality. Till will be hoping to turn his fortunes around thanks to training with Khamzat, an Chechen undefeated fighter who shares Aspinall’s penchant for quick finishes while absorbing minimal damage.
“Not many people surprise me, because I know I’m a beast. So this guy must be a beast. I just need to get conditioning, then we take over, brother. Make sure I’m healthy, he’s making sure I’m healthy. If I miss training, he’s on my ass. If I’m eating s***, he’s on my ass.”
Does the ascent of Darren Till’s countrymen, and his new training regime, mean we’ll see the return of the Gorilla? “Soon. If I’m coming back, I’m coming back to take over, so I need to be 100 percent.”
