WWE Monday Night Raw commences. Out comes Randy Orton to talk about his challenge last week. He asks if the phrase ‘straight-up wrestling match’ is so hard for people to understands. Says this is the WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment, it’s what they do. At WrestleMania they tore the building apart in the Last Man Standing match and though it pains him to say this, on that night, Edge was the better man. But he knows deep in his gut that deep inside, without a shadow of a doubt, Edge is not the superior wrestler. And he will prove it. He doesn’t need tables, ladders or chairs, he just needs a referee and a ring. Says he knows that nobody here can do what he can do, and that includes Edge. Says he knows why Edge didn’t accept his challenge last Monday night. He saw it written all over his face, he saw it in his eyes. What he saw was doubt. Says Edge’s grit and passion has faded away. And what once was grit and passion is now just doubt. And fear.
At that point Edge’s music hits and he gets a full smoke show even though he doesn’t play to it. He just walks out looking a little flummoxed. He enters the ring with his mouth agape. Says that last week, Randy spoke a lot of truths. Gave him a lot to contemplate and chew on, to internalize. Says he knows what he’s doing, playing a game of chess. He wants him to rush into his next move. Says that’s what it is to Orton, a game. It’s just a paycheck to him. Edge says he gets it, he’ll say it again, Randy’s quite possibly the most talented person in a wrestling ring. But it’s not the life he wanted, it’s the life he was handed, it was his backup plan.
So yeah he’s different from all the other superstars in the locker room, because he doesn’t care. He didn’t go to bed every night dreaming of being WWE Champion like he did, didn’t save up his allowance to go to a show like he did. He didn’t cry the night he won the Intercontinental title like Edge did, because he was on the track to being the best workhorses in this business. And he can say it now because after all he beat Orton for that title that night. Orton tries to cut him off but Edge keeps going, saying he never had to fight back from a career-ending injury like he did. Orton tells him to stop and asks if he accepts the challenge or not and Edge yells that he does! Orton smiles and slinks away.
