After the shocking knockout loss to Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman took part in the Joe Rogan Experience episode where he opened up and admitted that he is a ‘kinda low-key’ fan of Colby Covington.
Last month, the ‘Nigerian nightmare’ fought the British Leon Edwards and lost in a shocking fashion at the end of the last round of the bout. Just as he was about to break Anderson Silva’s record of 16 consecutive title defenses, Leon Edwards stopped him.
Kamaru Usman Admits To Joe Rogan That He Is A Colby Covington Fan
Of course, Dana White agreed that the least that he can do for Usman after the perfect win streak is arrange a rematch and give him a chance to reclaim his title.
Other fighters in the division, such as Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington who mark two losses to the ‘Nightmare’ rub their hands as they hope that Kamaru will lose once more. This would surely open their door to a title shot and get them back in the competition for the title.
While speaking to Joe Rogan, Kamaru said that he doesn’t feel ‘shaken-up’ or disappointed that he finally lost a fight. Quite on the contrary, he reveals that he feels ‘kind of a relief’. Now finally, he doesn’t have the pressure to be that ‘perfect’ fighter.
Amongst other things, Kamaru Usman spoke about his rivals, Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington.
“I actually like both guys.” – Usman confessed. “I like Covington and I like Masvidal. As a person, I’ve never hung out with Covington as a person so I wouldn’t know how he is as a person. I’ve heard rumors because how his energy is with other people might not be how his energy is with my energy. So until I experience that it’s hard for me to speak on it. But, as an athlete, as a competitor, and with what he brings to the table, I’m almost kinda low-key a fan. I admire what he’s able to do. To talk that much s—t and get your face broken too and still talk more s—t after? That takes a different person.”
Joe Rogan then explained that in Colby’s early UFC days, the promotion was about to cut him off. However, he came up with that perfect ‘Chaos’ persona that allowed him to gain popularity and remain in promotion. And not only that but become one of the most recognizable characters in his weight division.
“Nothing has changed in his fighting style, he’s always been doing that to guys. Now, he’s got that shtick behind him, and it works, so more power to him. I hear he’s a super nice guy!” – Usman confirmed.
Usman continued speaking to reveal his expectations and wishes for the time coming. He specified that he surely wants to see Covington fight Khamzat Chimaev.
“I think what’s more interesting is Chimaev versus Covington.” – Usman said. “Think how that’s the ultimate test because Covington does everything. He, for lack of a better word, and by no disrespect, with all due respect. I mean no disrespect, it’s Covington, you gotta get past Covington.”
