Maycee “The Future” Barber is one of the best UFC Flyweight performers. She has a quite short professional career of five years, however, during this ‘short’ period she managed to achieve a record of 10-2-0 which is astonishing. The two losses that she has are by unanimous decision, and both are very close calls.
She comes to the MMA from a fighting background in Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This is making her one of the most dangerous fighters on her feet, as well as on the ground.
Maycee Barber Tortured Montana De La Rosa For Three Rounds And Won By Unanimous Decision
The 23-year-old American, this weekend, on the UFC Vegas 52 event faced the 20 ranked Montana De La Rosa. Montana De La Rosa comes from a Brasilian Jiu-Jitsu background as well and has a professional record of 12-7-1. Even though her career has a longer year span, her fight outcomes have rather colorful endings.
Maycee Barber has shown to be more aggressive and more dominant in the octagon this time and has held the control of the fight in her hands for more than 70% of the time.
Interesting detail that is worth mentioning is that the 23-year-old flyweight fighter started and finished the fight with the same intensity, never showed weakness, and showed great durability. Her cardio is on an impeccable lever making her endure a three-round fight without showing any sign of fatigue.
Due to the confidence that she had since the beginning of the fight, in the first round, she managed to unload many brutally fierce shots in Montana’s torso. One time she succeeded to make her opponent dizzy due to a powerful shot in the head and it looked like she had a chance to deliver a knockout. However, the knockout, nor a knockdown happened.
The second round was more of a ground fight. Firstly De La Rosa took control and was on top. However, she did not manage to take advantage of the situation and land any significant strikes. Shortly after, the situation was changed and Maycee somehow succeeded to get on top. On the contrary of Montana, she now delivered several powerful elbows.
In the third round, Montana started more aggressively and clinched Barber, however, once again she failed to deliver considerable damage. Quite the reverse, she again received elbow blows to the torso.
This fight gives us some hope and promises that Maycee might be in reign once again. Since the start of her professional career, she had eight consecutive wins, followed by two losses, one from Roxanne Modafferi and one from Alexa Grasso. She is back on track now with her second win in a row. We sure hope that it continues like this. We hope that one day she might be given a title shot. She obviously deserves it.
Her fighting techniques, endurance, strong determination, and aggressive style make her one of the most exciting fighters in her division.
